Story webs or mind maps are staples in the handbooks about writing and writing instruction. Richard Smyth has a developed a mind mapping technique for writing autobiographical stories. Smyth calls the method autocartography or mapping one’s story. In this slide show Smyth explains the technique. While some of the explanation and examples are probably too advanced for most students younger than junior or senior year, the concept itself can be applied and used in lower grade levels.
