Take a look at the border between the United States and Canada west of the Great Lakes and it looks like a long straight line to the Pacific ocean. But zoom in on it in Google Earth or walk a section of it as I have, and you’ll see that it isn’t as straight as it appears on paper. In the video embedded below CGP Grey explains why the border is not straight and how some of the other quirks of the border came to be.
