Celebrating Constitution Day with These Free Resources

As we approach the commemoration of Constitution Day, it is a golden opportunity to immerse students in the rich tapestry of our nation’s foundational document. The Constitution is not just a historical artifact; it is a living, breathing entity that governs the structure and function of our government to this very day. As educators, fostering a deep understanding and appreciation for the Constitution is one of the most significant gifts we can bestow upon our students.

You can locate Constitution Day activities for every grade band at https://www.icivics.org/

TeacherMade also has a great activity you can use with your middle or high school students. The autograded digital activity is structured as a Match Table Grid  where students are tasked with identifying roles/powers of each branch of governmentt – Executive, Legislative, and Judicial.

To use this activity, first give a brief discussion on the Constitution and how it set forth the structure for our government over 230 years. Then assign the activity and allow 15 – 20 minutes for completion. After the activity, hold a class discussion to go over the answers and encourage students to reflect on what they learned.

Richard Byrne also suggests the resources available on https://docsteach.org and you can view his video on Youtube: https://youtu.be/xTvf_FWuUm0?si=e_YIkux-nujmXQDw
