Anyone that has taught middle school or high school mathematics for more than a week has probably heard a student ask “when are we ever going to use this?” The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics has a resource that might be handy to have in your classroom. SIAM has produced a twenty page brochure about the many jobs that someone could do with a mathematics background. The brochure is available as a PDF or you can request one free hard copy from SIAM.

Applications for Education
I don’t teach mathematics, but I’ve been a part of parent-teacher conferences in which parents have wondered what their child could do with a mathematics background. This brochure from SIAM would have been a handy reference to have on hand in those meetings.
