Scholastic is hosting a poetry contest for students in grades nine through twelve. Winning entries will receive a new HP Pavilion laptop. Fifteen laptops will be awarded, twelve to high school senior and one to each of grades nine through eleven. Entries are being accepted now through June 30, 2009. Entries can be submitted online. All entries into the the Power of Poetry contest must be written in Haiku form. To help students get started, Scholastic provides students with a good how-to guide for writing Haiku’s. Scholastic also provides students a gallery of sample poems.

Applications for Education
When students write or create for a wider audience, they sometimes take more pride in their work than when just writing for their classrooms. Contests are a good way to get students to write for a wider audience.
